THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) has reported 214 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections among its personnel, as 35 more police officers tested positive for the virus.
As of Friday evening, PNP Health Service (PNPHS) Director, Brig. Gen. Herminio Tadeo, said 66 patients out of the 214 cases since March have recovered from the disease, marking a recovery rate of 30.84 percent.
Tadeo said 144 are active cases while four have died.
The police have ramped up mass testing among its front-liners and expect the number of positive cases to rise in the next few days due to pending results of some confirmatory tests.
“We are taking great steps to fast-track the conduct of mass testing among police front-liners and we also expect the increasing trend of positive cases among PNP personnel in the coming days,” he said in a statement.
The PNPHS is also monitoring 703 probable cases and 450 suspected cases.
Tadeo said as of Friday, some 1,681 PNP personnel have completed self or home quarantine under strict monitoring and medical observation.
Meanwhile, the PNP Headquarters Support Service (HSS) will conduct a Camp Crame-wide disinfection and decontamination on May 16-17 before the re-entry of personnel starting May 18.
It also advised all offices and units to install portable sink or washbasin and footbaths at entrances so personnel could wash their hands before entering the workplace.
