LANAO DEL SUR – Police are holding 17 Islamic
missionaries in the island-town of Balut in Davao Occidental province in
southern Philippines, the National Commission on Muslim
Filipinos (NCMF) said.

It said the missionaries were recently
arrested and detained for breaking the quarantine guidelines when they returned
by boat from missionary works in General Santos City. They were not wearing
face mask and failed to coordinate their movement with the local government and
had incomplete papers.
NCMF Regional Director Sherrila Porza said she talked
to the relatives of the missionaries and they admitted that the documentation
of the Tablighs was not complete, and that they insisted to return to the
island despite the government's travel advisories and quarantine guidelines.
Dr.
Jun Alonto Datu Ramos, NCMF Director for External Relations and spokesman,
said he will meet with Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista to discuss the
matter. (Asangan Madale)
