Roadblocks effective in implementing lockdowns

LOCKDOWN THROUGH roadblocks tends to be effective in controlling the spread of the COVId-19 infection. Three barangay chairs in the city shared this observation as the city enters the seventh day of extended enhanced community quarantine.

Interviewed by the Davao City Disaster Radio, James Salvador, chair of Barangay Buhangin said that some puroks take the initiative of locking down their areas just to ensure that only their residents are allowed entry.
He said 45 out of the 69 puroks in Barangay Buhangin locked their streets, upon learning that there are COVID positive individuals in their area.
“Epektibo ni nga paagi aron makontrol nila nga residente ra gyud sa barangay ang makasulod,” Salvador said.
Nestor Cirunay, chair of Barangay Matina-Aplaya said the City Health Office has not declared anybody from his barangay as COVID-19 positive.
However, he said that several puroks in his barangay institute lockdown of its exit points and to allow residents in the barangay access with the ID, FM pass.
Cirunay said there are puroks who do not allow the entry of visitors.
Barangay chair Engr. Bendor Calamba of Talomo revealed that reports about several residents having found to be COVID-19, resulted in initial worry in the area.
He said that seven persons were found to be COVID-19 positive in his barangay, but based on the DOH information, all seven got the transmission from the outside and not in Barangay Talomo.
Calamba said five of these residents have recovered already while two remain in the hospital.
Even then, he said residents are reminded to just follow the control mechanisms to address the infection.
Calamba said the FM pass is strictly enforced, while quarantine checkpoints and lockdowns are done in many sitios, allowing only residents entry while non-residents are advised to stay away. (By Joey Dalumpines)
