Stranded Iligan City workers return home from Lanao Sur

LANAO DEL SUR – Six workers stranded in the town of Lumba-Bayabao in Lanao del Sur province have finally returned home in Iligan City through the efforts of local government officials from the two areas.

Iligan City Councilor Jake Balanay, who represented Mayor Celso Regencia, facilitated the return of the workers through their “Oplan: Sundo” program in coordination with
Lanao del Sur board member Nash MD Ganda Jr.

Municipal Mayor Mahar Dagalangit also assisted in the repatriation of the workers who also underwent routine rapid Covid-19 testing and all of them are negative for the novel coronavirus disease.

The tests were part of the protocols set by the Department of Health even though the town has no Covid-19 case.

Dagalangit stood witness along with other officials led by Minda Dagalangit, president of the Association of Barangay Captains, during the Friday handover of the workers held at the Sangguniang Bayan.

Balanay thanked the municipal and city health units and government officials, including Iligan Councilor Macky Macapagal, who heads the Committee on Health for the extensive check-up done on all the workers.

Dagalangit lauded all those involved in the repatriation and thanked the Lanao del Sur Inter-Agency Task Force Covid-19 headed by Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr.

Just recently, nine Iligan City students of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City - who had been stranded for two months due to the strict enhanced community quarantine imposed in Lanao del Sur - were also ferried home by soldiers from the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in coordination with university and government officials.

In April, over 250 university students stranded in their were also ferried by army soldiers who provided vehicles and assisted the local government and university officials in bringing them home to 25 different towns here.

1Lt. Charles Leiand Regala, a civil-military officer for the 82nd Infantry Battalion, said the unit provided 5 trucks and security to two buses and four university vans also used to fetch the students. (Asangan Madale)
