15 Bicol towns to benefit from P141-M DSWD Covid-19 projects

A TOTAL  of 15 towns in Bicol Region will benefit from the PHP141.7 million worth of community projects under the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Kapit-Bisig sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS). 

In an interview on Friday, Arnel Garcia, DSWD regional director, said multi-million-peso worth of community projects have started to be implemented this month in response to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
The municipalities receiving the fund allocations are: Pandan-PHP8.7 million; Bato-PHP7.9 million; San Miguel-PHP5.6 million; Panganiban-PHP3.8 million; and Baras-PHP4.8 million, all in Catanduanes.
In Sorsogon: Sta. Magdalena-PHP6.6 million; Casiguran-PHP12.3 million; Barcelona-PHP8.1 million; Castilla-PHP18.5 million.
In Masbate: Dimasalang-PHP11.3 million and Baleno-PHP9.7 million.
In Camarines Norte: Vinzons-PHP14.6 million; and San Lorenzo Ruiz-PHP5.6 million.
In Camarines Sur: Lupi-PHP10.5 million and Canaman-PHP12.9 million.
“The allocation for each municipality was computed based on the income class, poverty incidence and population,” Garcia said.
Last June 4, the program announced a shift in implementation from local government unit (LGU)-led to Disaster Response Operations Procedure (DROP) to assist in the recovery and rehabilitation of communities from the health crisis.
The community will be consulted on the possible projects to be implemented based on their needs.
The projects that are eligible for funding under the Covid-19 Disaster Response are Cash-For-Work (CFW) include those community volunteers or residents, training of Barangay Covid-19 Response Team, retrofitting or refurbishing of identified public buildings as temporary isolation space, procurement of Department of Health (DOH)-approved medical tools and equipment, procurement of personal protection equipment (PPE), hygiene kits, sanitation and cleaning supplies. (By Mar Serrano)
