BGC construction site on lockdown as 6 workers contract Covid-19

THE TAGUIG  City government has imposed a lockdown on a construction site at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) after six of its workers tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“To properly care for the workers and prevent an outbreak in the area, a construction site in BGC will be placed under a localized lockdown from June 23 until July 7 and during this time, the health and welfare of the employees in the quarantine site will be closely monitored, and no one will be allowed entry or leave the construction site," the city government said in an advisory posted on its Facebook page late Tuesday.
The measure was recommended by Taguig's Safe City Task Force.
On June 18, the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit investigated a report on the possible clustering or grouping of individuals with symptoms of fever in a construction site.
The workers were among the 27 suspect cases whose test results were released on Tuesday morning.
Based on the evaluation of their work environment, certain workers were also tested for dengue, typhoid, and the Zika virus.
During the localized lockdown, the Taguig police and BGC marshalls shall cordon off and secure the site while the health and living conditions of the workers will be done regularly.
The city government also said its health response teams would be readily available to the quarantined construction workers.
The city government also decided to withhold the details of the construction site, its developer, and its workers to protect their right to privacy and avoid unnecessary and undue harm to all parties involved.
“Rest assured that the city government has taken all the necessary measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, and to ensure that the city is a safe place to live and do business in,” it said in the advisory.
