THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said 518 police officers have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Data from the PNP Health Service as of Tuesday night showed Covid-19 fatalities in the police force stands at nine, four of whom were from Central Visayas.
The latest fatality is a 45-year-old police officer from Cebu, who was assigned at the Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas) He is the fourth consecutive case of recent police fatalities from the region.
PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa condoled with the family of the police front-liner.
“We are doing our best to provide immediate medical attention to our police patients and to help keep our front-liners safe,” he said in a statement.
He noted that the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the PNP represent roughly 1.6 percent of the total of 31,825 Covid-19 cases recorded nationwide by the Department of Health as of Tuesday.
Meanwhile, 313 PNP patients have recovered while 160 personnel remain in quarantine facilities, 14 personnel are under home quarantine, and 22 patients are undergoing treatment in medical facilities. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
