THE JOINT task Force Covid Shield (JTF CV Shield) on Tuesday said it has responded to a total of 8,102 calls and messages since the start of the quarantine in the country amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
In a statement, JTF CV Shield commander, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said from March 17 to May 31, the task force has received a daily average of 106 calls, e-mail and Viber messages.
These were classified as complaint, inquiry, request for response, and other concerns received through these numbers: 09988490013 (Smart), 09175382495 (Globe), and (02) 87253176 and through its email address, ncovmonitoring@gmail.com.
On the enforcement of enhanced community quarantine guidelines, JTF CV Shield data showed that 175,338 quarantine violators were either arrested, fined, and warned, Eleazar said.
A total of 822 people were arrested for hoarding, profiteering, and manipulation of prices of medical supplies and other essentials.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has so far handled and acted on 304 calls nationwide from its newly-launched Helpline “16677”, a communication hotline for public assistance and response in support of police operations relative to the implementation of quarantine protocols.
“The hotline is a quick response mechanism to assure the public that the PNP is ready to assist them at all times through the relevant and timely release of information, guidelines, and updated regulations." PNP chief, Gen. Archie Gamboa said.
He, meanwhile, reminded the public that checkpoints and curfew hours will still be enforced in compliance with protocols under the general community quarantine.
“We ask for your patience and continued cooperation. The threat of the Covid-19 pandemic is ever present and we are using information to educate and protect our people. The hotline should bridge all communication concerns between the PNP and the public,” he noted.
