TESDA raises training support fund for scholars

THE TECHNICAL Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) scholars will now receive an allowance for personal protective equipment (PPE) and internet, in addition to a standard PHP160-daily allowance.

In the Tongtongan ed Philippine Information Agency forum on Wednesday, TESDA Pangasinan director, Dr. Jimnicio Jimay Daoaten said the PPE and internet allowance of PHP500 each will be given one time within the duration of the course or program.

Daoaten said the TESDA is accepting applications for the scholarship via social media accounts of the accredited technical-vocational schools.

“The programs are open for everybody but we prioritize repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), displaced workers, or those who have lost their job during this pandemic. But everybody is welcome to apply as we have different programs for different sectors,” he said.

The Inter-Agency Task Force Resolution No. 47 series of 2020 released on June 19 allowed TESDA to continue the training programs “related to agriculture/fishery qualifications for food production and processing, distance learning for technical vocational education and training (TVET) programs, and eLearning components of blended learning for TVET programs”.

In areas under modified general community quarantine like Pangasinan, TESDA will resume with the regular assessments, subject to strict physical distancing, and local government unit guidelines.

“We are still waiting for the instruction from the central office and the schools are still being validated to determine if they will be approved to operate,” he said.

He added they plan to adopt distance or online learning but face-to-face training will also be considered with health protocols to be followed strictly.

Meanwhile, Daoaten said they have been closely coordinating with the repatriated OFWs in the province.

“Most of them are already skilled but most of them do not have a national certificate. They will be assessed based on their previous jobs so they just have to submit (an) employment certificate and no need for them to attend training,” he said. (By Hilda Austria)
