TWO TARGET -listed pushers were killed while two others were arrested in separate police anti-drug operations here on Thursday.
Lt. Col. Lino Capellan, the spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-12, identified the suspects as Edgar Alberca, 52, of Purok 5, New Society in Barangay Apopong, and Tho Tiban, 36, of Purok 11-C, Barangay Fatima.
He said the two, who were included in the watchlist of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU)-12, were killed in separate shootouts with police operatives.
A report from RPDEU-12 said Alberca resisted arrest after selling a sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP500 to an undercover operative during a buy-bust at a portion of Barangay Apopong around 7:20 a.m.
The suspect reportedly drew a caliber .38 handgun after sensing that he was dealing with lawmen and fired at them while trying to flee.
Alberca was fatally wounded during the ensuing shootout and was declared dead upon arrival at the Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Hospital.
Around 1 p.m., the RPDEU team launched another entrapment in Barangay Fatima targeting Tiban but the transaction reportedly led to a firefight after the latter pulled out a firearm.
Recovered from the suspect were 23 sachets of suspected shabu, PHP500 marked bill used in the buy-bust, and a caliber .38 revolver.
Capellan said the two were included in the Inter-Agency Drug Information Database or the former drug list of President Rodrigo Duterte.
He said the operation was part of the simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operation launched on Thursday by police units in Region 12 (Soccsksargen).
These also targeted loose firearms, wanted persons, and those involved in other criminal activities like robbery and illegal gambling.
“This is a continuing campaign in line with our efforts to curb the resurgence of crimes and related illegal activities amid the (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic,” he said in an interview on Friday.
Meanwhile, two other suspected pushers were arrested in separate buy-busts around 4 p.m. in barangays Lagao and Labangal.
Lucky Tirso Bernabese, 21, was nabbed after selling a sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP500 during an entrapment in Purok Guadalupe, Barangay Lagao.
Another suspected pusher, Narcelo Sario alias “Jojo Lagum,” 40, was cornered by operatives in Purok EMB Homes, Barangay Labangal after selling a sachet of shabu worth PHP500 to an undercover operative.
Maj. Ruelito Lumiguid, chief of the Lagao police station, said Bernabese was also facing complaints for robbery. (
