ZAMBOANGA CITY – A small private plane carrying three foreigners and a Filipino crash-landed at sea off a coastal village in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga.

The ill-fated US-made twin-engine Piper PA-34 Seneca carrying 3 foreigners and a Filipino after it crash-lands at sea off Zamboanga City on July 7, 2020 due to engine malfunction.

The four – two Indian nationals, a Nepalese and the Filipino – were heading to Dumaguete City in the central Philippine province of Negros Oriental when the twin-engine Piper PA-34 Seneca went down off Sinunuc village.

Authorities said one of the plane’s engines malfunctioned and the pilots were forced to land the aircraft at sea to avoid crashing on the road. None of the four people on board was injured in the landing and managed to safely exit the plane which was submerged under 10 feet of water.

Police spokesman Captain Edwin Duco said among the passengers of the ill-fated plane were two flight instructors, a mechanic and a student pilot. “There is an investigation now,” he said.

The regional police office identified the passengers as Suramya Khanal, 28; Jyothis John Pulinthanam, 27; Jemy Chacko Domen, and Razel Dulay, 27.

The plane (RP-C834) is owned by the Royhle Flight Academy based in Dumaguete City and flew to Zamboanga to deliver an aircraft. The company also offers aerial tours, charter flights and medical evacuation. (Zamboanga Post)
