THE DIOCESE of Legazpi on Friday announced that one of its priests has been diagnosed positive with coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Fr. Rex Paul Arjona, diocese spokesperson, said 64-year-old Fr. Antonio Peralta tested positive for the virus.
“This is to inform our faithful and the general public that Rev. Fr. Antonio B. Peralta is diagnosed as Covid-19 positive. He is identified as Bicol Patient #776, 64 years old, Filipino male, Priest, from Sipi, Daraga, Albay,” he said in a Facebook post.
Arjona added that Peralta is currently under quarantine.
“Father Peralta is the Vice-Rector of Mater Salutis College Seminary and is currently quarantined in his place of assignment,” he said.
“Last August 7, 2020, he had a slight fever and noticed a loss of smell and taste. He was swab tested on August 10,” the priest said.
Arjona said they have the permission of the priest in releasing the information to be able to help with contact tracing.
“The diocese is making this public announcement, with permission from Father Peralta and in close coordination with local health authorities, to help with contact tracing,” he added.
He also urged the faithful to pray for Peralta and all those afflicted by the virus.
“We ask the public to pray for the fast and full recovery of Father Peralta and all Covid-19 patients, support our front-liners and authorities, and religiously observe prescribed health standards,” he said. (By Ferdinand Patinio)
