Zambo all set for new census

MAYOR BENG CLIMACO said the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is all set for the conduct of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) and urged residents to support the government’s survey.

She said the public and CPH enumerators must strictly follow the health protocols amid the current crisis brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. “Please observe physical distancing and wear a face mask or face shield. The census shall start on September 1 and will run until September 29,” Climaco said.

This was also confirmed by Chief Statistical Specialist Conrad Sontillano, of the Philippine Statistics Authority in Zamboanga Peninsula. He said some 949 people were hired and trained as enumerators.
He said the enumerators are equipped with personal protective equipment when they go house-to-house in all 98 barangays here for the census.

The CPH was originally scheduled in May, but this had been moved to September due to the pandemic.

The last census in Zamboanga City was conducted in 2015 where it registered a total population of 861,799. Among the barangay which have the highest population were Talon-Talon, Mampang, Tumaga, Tetuan, Calarian, San Roque, Pasonanca, Santa Maria, Baliwasan and Tugbungan.

The CPH is a nationwide government undertaking that involves the collection, compilation, evaluation, analysis, publication and dissemination of data on population count.

The census includes demographic and socio-economic characteristics of population, housing characteristic, household characteristics and barangay characteristics in every barangay, city and municipality, province and region.

It aims to provide government executives, policy makers, and planners with population and housing data on which to base their social and economic development plans, policies and programs. (Zamboanga Post)
