TEO PERSONS were summoned by barangay (village) officials in Bulacan for allegedly holding frequent social gatherings in their area which include drinking sessions, the Joint Task Force Covid Shield said on Tuesday.
In a statement, task force commander, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said this stemmed from a complaint sent by a netizen to the task force's Facebook account.
Eleazar said the latest gathering allegedly organized Sunday night by Racquel Rivera and Cesar Jhon Rivera, both of Lhinette Homes in Barangay Saog in Marilao town.
The netizen added that those who attend the gathering usually do not wear face masks and face shields and ignore physical distancing rules.
“Coordination was immediately made with the Marilao Municipal Police Station to inform them of the quarantine violations based on the complaint,” said Eleazar.
In response to the complaint, Marilao police chief, Lt. Col. Dominador Ignacio immediately sent two police officers to proceed to the area but the social gathering was already stopped by the barangay tanods (village watchmen).
The two residents were invited to the barangay hall while the owner of the house was also warned by the local police.
The local police are now waiting for the action of the barangay officials as the netizen who reported the quarantine violations decided to file a complaint at the barangay.
Eleazar thanked the netizen who reported the quarantine violations for contributing to the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“As promised, we will immediately act on your complaint through our Facebook page. Just send a message, and if possible including the photos and short videos of the quarantine violations, and we will do the rest, including the protection of your identity,” said Eleazar.
Since the creation of the task force's Facebook page on September 11, it has acted upon 97 cases of quarantine violations stemming from netizens’ complaints and monitoring of viral photos and videos. Majority of the complaints are from Metro Manila and Calabarzon.
Earlier, 16 people were apprehended in Taguig City after a netizen sent photos of their drinking session to the JTF Covid Shield Facebook page.
Most of the cases, however, were settled at the barangay level through warning and fines. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
