The bodies of the soldiers were recovered at the crash site in the remote village called Upper Manggas in Lantawan town.

But the Philippine Air Force and the military’s Western Mindanao Command in Zamboanga City have not release any reports, not even the identities of those who tragically died in the crash.

The chopper, Sikorsky S-76A, was totally burned. The cause of the crash is unknown, but the southern region is battered by heavy rains due to typhoon Noul. The area where the chopper went down is also a known lair of Abu Sayyaf militants.

The chopper was carrying two pilots and a pair of crewmen from the Edwin Andrews Air Base in Zamboanga City. It was said to be heading to Sulu province. (Zamboanga Post)
