San Juan, CSMC ink pact to boost medical assistance

THE LOCAL  government of San Juan on Wednesday signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) to strengthen the provision of medical assistance to marginalized residents in the city.

San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said the partnership is aimed at providing medical assistance to indigent patients who needed "hospital services, medical procedures, and other diagnostics."

Zamora said indigent residents who wish to avail the medical services provided under the MOA should visit the city's public assistance center.

"Kung ito ay hindi po kayang gawin ng ating San Juan Medical Center sa kasalukuyan, base sa kasunduang ito ay pwede po nating gawin na sa (If services cannot be catered through our San Juan Medical Center as of this moment, based on the agreement, we can do this with the) Cardinal Santos Medical Center," he added.

The agreement between the city government and the hospital is seen to be help further improve the city's healthcare services, Zamora said, adding that the CSMC is medically equipped and complete with medical facilities and other types of equipment.

Meanwhile, Raul Pagdanganan, CSMC president and chief executive officer, expressed his gratitude to the local government for giving them the opportunity to extend medical assistance to those needed it.

"Dito po sa partnership na ito ay nagpapasalamat ako dahil kahit papaano ay makakatulong ang ating ospital–lalo na sa bahagi ng kasulusugan at ikagagamot ng maysakit (We are very grateful for this partnership as somehow, our hospital could be able to extend help–particularly in health and treatment of ill patients)," Pagdanganan said.

On the other hand, Zamora said the fund, which was downloaded by the Department of Health (DOH) to the city government, will be used under the agreement.

"Ang pondo po ng DOH na nandito sa San Juan City government… Ito po ang pwede nating gamitin ngayon dito (The DOH fund given to the San Juan City government could be used for implementing this agreement)," Zamora said.

"Wala ho tayong masyadong magiging problema 'pag pondo (ang) usapan sapagkat ito po ay (We don't need to worry about the fund because it is) nationally government-funded," he added, noting that the city government's fund could also be used to augment the medical assistance provided by the Cardinal General Santos Center, which will be taken under the MOA.

Zamora reminded anew those who wish to avail of medical services to coordinate first with the city's public assistance center so that a proper referral system could be observed.

The local government is yet to release the referral guidelines and processes that should be followed under the signed agreement. (By Lade Jean Kabagani)
