THE TAGUIG city government said it will tighten the enforcement quarantine protocols aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
In a statement Tuesday, Mayor Lino Cayetano said the city has activated a 'Tapang Malasakit Disiplina' team composed of 1,000 members to help the Philippine National Police (PNP) enforce the city's ordinance on health and safety protocols.
This came after local police and members of the Joint Task Force Covid Shield arrested 16 individuals for violating quarantine protocols in Barangay Lower Bicutan on September 12.
"The City Government of Taguig would like to congratulate Covid Shield Task Force Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar for the arrest by his men, together with the Taguig police led by Col. Celso Rodriguez, of these individuals who were found in violation of City Ordinance No. 27-89 that prohibits drinking in public places," he said in a statement.
The suspects were later charged with violating Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
"Taguig City will continue to pursue violators of health and safety protocols," Cayetano said.
He added Taguig takes pride in being among the cities with the lowest active Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila.
"Taguig's citizens are mostly disciplined and cooperative but like any city, it faces challenges," Cayetano said.
Despite having early Covid-19 cases in March, Taguig is among the cities with the lowest active cases in Metro Manila because of its aggressive approach in implementing rules and regulations, Cayetano said.
He also vowed to hold liable individuals and establishments that refuse to comply with quarantine protocols. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
