Mayor Beng Climaco issued Executive Order 589 re-implementing the prohibition on cargo trucks of more than 5 gross weight tonnage, including trailers and container vans, on certain streets in Zamboanga from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Section 1 of EO 589 prohibits truck or transportation and/or cargo trucks of more than 5 gross or 5,000 kilograms to include trailers, container vans from plying through Governor Camins Avenue, Veterans Avenue, Governor Ramos Avenue, MCLL Highway from intersection of Governor Camins to Veterans Avenue, Don Alfaro Street in Barangay Tetuan.

While Section 2 of the same order provides a total truck ban at all times for 10-wheeler trucks and up and six-wheeler trucks with an over-all length of 20 feet and beyond on Governor Alvarez Alejo Street, Mayor Vitaliano Agan Avenue, Zamboanga City-Labuan Road and Baliwasan Grande.

Climaco said exempted from the ban are fire trucks and liquefied petroleum gas carriers, as well as trucks carrying flammable gas and acetylene gas, and medical and industrial grade oxygen; Zamboanga City Water District tankers, refrigerated vans, and trucks carrying perishable goods, agricultural cargoes and those transporting factory workers.

She said the order took effect on September 16 after the City Council passed Resolution No. 1211 on September 1 supporting EO 589. Climaco did not specify the fines or penalties for those who violate the truck ban. (Zamboanga Post)
