SEVERE TROPICAL Storm (STS) "Goni" (international name) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 5:30 p.m., and was given the local name, "Rolly", the weather bureau announced Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), however, will provide details in a severe weather bulletin that will be issued at 11 p.m., it added.
Earlier, PAGASA forecast the trough of Goni to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Caraga.
The northeasterly surface wind flow, on the other hand, will cause scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, and Cagayan.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Based on PAGASA's forecast before the STS enters PAR, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Northern Luzon.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (By Ma. Cristina Arayata)
