The Philippine Navy dispatched a rescue team under Col.
Ruben Candelario after receiving reports of the missing boat and its crew. After
17 hours at sea, the rescue team spotted the fishermen clinging on the ill-fated
boat and rescued them near Bacungan Island also in Sulu.
“We were able to rescue five adult
males and brought them to the nearest wharf in Tandy Bato in Luuk town for
immediate medical care. We are still searching for the sixth fishermen, Arman
Pulalon,” Candelario said.
He identified those rescued as
Kaisar, Judimar, Alvin and Rene – all surnamed Pulanon, and Alnaser Hadjirul,
who are fishermen from the town of Indanan.
“These individuals are local fishermen from Indanan who came to Patikul waters amid heavy rains to fish,” he said, adding, all of them were doing fine despite their harrowing ordeal. (Mindanao Examiner)
