ZAMBOANGA CITY – Army soldiers killed an Abu Sayyaf militant in a clash in the southern province of Basilan where security forces continue the hunt for the pro-ISIS group blamed for terrorism in the restive region.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr, chief of the Western Mindanao Command, said troops killed the militant near a roadblock in Felang village in Ungkaya Pukan town, but 2 other terrorists managed to escape.
He said the trio was on a motorcycle transporting a machine gun when they spotted the soldiers and exchanged gunfire with security forces. The fighting occurred Thursday afternoon.
Vinluan said troops recovered the
body of the slain militant and the M60 machine gun, including the motorcycle.
He said there is a sustained military offensives against the Abu Sayyaf in
Basilan, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region. (Zamboanga Post)
