CEBU GOV. Gwendolyn Garcia led the opening ceremony of the newly improved one-kilometer Poblacion-Dalayday-San Antonio road section in Boljoon town and is now open for public use.
Stretching a total of 14.7 kilometers, the entire
Poblacion-Dalayday-San Antonio road will be concreted next year as funding for
this is included in the P15 billion proposed budget for 2021, according to
Garcia.
One of the Garcia’s priority projects is to improve 880 kilometers
of provincial roads in the entire Cebu following national standards of 6.1
meters in width and 9 inches in thickness.
In her speech, the governor recalled visiting Boljoon’s Stations
of the Holy Cross in 2019 located in the then narrow and rough
Poblacion-Dalayday road section. “Duna gyu'y hinungdan nganong nahitabo to nga
naabot ko diri unya nagkita mi si Mayor (Derama) ug Tata Salvador (2nd District
PB Member Jose Mari Salvador). Nakaingon gyud ko adto nga 'Ginoo, kon tugotan
nga modaug ko ako gyud ning atimanon ning maong karsada,” she said.
Garcia earlier led the ground breaking of the P55.1 million second
phase of the road project covering four kilometers.
Second District Representative Wilfredo Caminero also expressed
his gratitude and confidence to Garcia’s passion and dedication to serve the
Cebuanos. “Salamat kaayo sa grasya Gov. Gwen kay ako mismo nakasaksi gyud unsa
kalisud moagi ning dalana sa una. Magkurog ang akong tuhod. Magdungaw pa og
kimba. Tinuod gyud na nga dili mahimong magsugat ang mga sakyanan dinhing
dapita sa una. Apan karon lapad na,” he said.
Board Member Edsel Galeos, representing the 2nd District of Cebu,
vowed to work even harder to support the priority programs of Garcia which
include road concreting, waterworks, hospital upgrade, and rural
electrification. “Atong abagan ang paningkamot ni Gov. Gwen nga ibalik ang
nindot nato nga mga karsada nga duna gyuy lined ditch or canal on both sides,”
he said.
Boljoon Mayor Merlou Derama also thanked Garcia for the newly
improved road that benefits residents of the town’s mountain barangays. “Dili
gyud ikalimod kon unsa kadako kining gasa nga gihatag ni Gov Gwen nato dinhi sa
Boljoon labi na niadtong gikan sa bukid maghatod og abot dinhi sa patag,”
Derama said.
Garcia also led the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing of the
town’s newly renovated “Balay Lungsod” or municipal hall worth P9.750 million
funded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government Bohol Earthquake
Assistance Funds.
Municipal Treasurer Ruben Niere said the municipal hall was
severely hit by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake on October 15, 2013. With its
epicenter located in Inabanga, Bohol, the tremor was also felt in Cebu
Province, especially in the southeastern towns, affecting many churches and
other historical sites.
Joining Garcia in the ceremonies were Caminero, Galeos, Derama,
former Mayor Teresita Celis, Vice Mayor Ervin Villanueva, Provincial
Engineering Office Chief Hector Jamora, contractor Jonathan Quirante of
Quirante Construction, Alcoy Mayor Michael Sestoso, and other local officials.
