Leyte gov’t to send P1-M cash aid to Catanduanes By Roel Amazona November 18, 2020, 2:07 pmShare

THE LEYTE  provincial government will be sending PHP1 million cash assistance to typhoon-battered Catanduanes.

“The financial assistance will be sent to the provincial government of Catanduanes within the month. We decided that it is better to send cash instead of goods so they can purchase what they need,” Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla announced on Wednesday.

“That is the only assistance that we can give to them because we also need to prepare for possible strong typhoon towards the end of 2020,” he added.

The governor got an assurance from members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council that Leyte still has remaining funds for disaster response in case a destructive typhoon will hit the province since the local government has not used all funds for pandemic response.

"Rolly" (international name Goni) devastated most parts of the Bicol Region with the island province of Catanduanes and Albay in the mainland sustaining severe damage.

The Catanduanes provincial government has reported that more than 90 percent of its infrastructure and more than 10,000 houses were destroyed by the super typhoon. (By Roel Amazona)
