AS PART of efforts to uphold gender equality in all fields of social activity, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has conducted a two-day online Gender and Development (GAD) and Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) webinar via video conference.
NCRPO acting chief, Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. graced the two-day online GAD webinar which ran from Thursday to Friday, attended by 100 participants, composed of three police commissioned officers (PCOs), 96 police non-Commissioned officers (PNCOs), and one non-uniformed personnel (NUP) participants from the five police districts and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion.
The five police districts under NCRPO are the Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD), and Eastern Police District (EPD).
He said the seminar aims to guide the participants on the existing laws and regulations on gender development and sensitivity, it envisions to empower women by emphasizing their importance as active contributors to development anchored on the commitment of true compassion and real change.
Danao has been an active advocate of equality by recognizing the role of women in the organization, thus, allowing fair opportunities to all genders.
In his speech, he said everyone must broaden their understanding in recognizing gender issues and support gender mainstreaming in the organization.
"Panatilihin ninyong maging matapat, matapang at may malasakit sa mamamayan. Ang inyong tapang at malasakit ay gawing sandata upang gabayan, tulungan at magsilbing boses ng mga kababaihan sa pamayanan. Asahan ninyo na ako ay laging nakasuporta sa pag sisilbi at pag protekta sa ating mga kababayan (Always be honest, courageous, and caring for the people. Your courage and concern will be used as a weapon to guide, help, and serve as the voice of women in the community. Expect me to always be supportive of serving and protecting our countrymen)," Danao said. "Take advantage of this course and learn from the expertise of your lecturers. Then, use your acquired wisdom to strengthen other women in your respective communities."
Earlier, PNP chief Gen. Debold Sinas said more female police officers would be installed in key positions at the PNP.
He said the empowerment of women would encourage them to be independent, boost their self-esteem, and generate confidence as they face difficult situations related to policing.
Sinas earlier said this would serve as an opportunity for female cops to showcase their abilities and capabilities.
He initiated forming the first-ever municipal police station run by female police officers in the island province of Siquijor when he was Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 (Central Visayas) director.
Upon becoming chief of the NCRPO, Sinas replicated his move at PRO-7 and formed an all-female police community precinct in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig last March. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
