A TOTAL of 343 beneficiaries here received various livelihood assistance amounting to PHP2.9 million from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the agency’s Livelihood Assistance Grant.
The recipients, mostly trisikad drivers and food vendors, received the help in separate turn-over rites this week.
On Friday, 49 trisikad drivers from barangays Bata, Felisa, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Taculing, and Tangub were given one pedicab unit each for a total project cost of PHP490,000.
Also, 19 food vendors from Barangays Handumanan, Mandalagan, Mansilingan, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Taculing, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre received one food cart or rolling store each, totaling PHP285,000.
On Thursday, 197 beneficiaries from various villages also received other livelihood projects worth PHP1.355 million.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who led the initial turn-over rites at the Government Center grounds on Wednesday, reminded the beneficiaries to observe health protocols while earning a living.
“The most important thing is for everyone to wear face masks and face shields. It is stipulated under our ordinance and for the safety of both you and your passengers,” the mayor said.
During the ceremony, 63 trisikad drivers from barangays 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, 28, 30, 31, 33, 35, 36, Alijis and Banago received one pedicab each costs PHP630,000.
Some 15 vendors from barangays 3, 6, 17, 19, 26, 32, Alijis, Banago, Estefania, and Granada also received one food cart each worth PHP225,000.
Leonardia was joined by DSWD Sustainability Livelihood Program provincial coordinator Emily Apostol, DSWD Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program team leader Ramon Rufon, City Administrator Em Ang, and Department of Social Services and Development Bacolod head Pacita Tero.
“I hope that this program will give you the light and hope in your daily lives especially in this pandemic,” Apostol told the recipients. (By Nanette Guadalquiver)
