THE DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd) Dagupan City Schools Division has chosen the Salisay Elementary School (ES) as the area for the dry run for face-to-face classes on January 4 next year.
This after President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the recommendation of DepEd to return to face-to-face classes in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) low-risk areas.
In an interview on Wednesday, Dagupan City Division Superintendent Aguedo Fernandez said they picked Salisay ES as it passed the criteria for areas with one of the lowest Covid-19 cases under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ); with proper local government unit (LGU)-DepEd coordination; and amicable relationship between the parents, LGU, and the DepEd.
Among the barangays with schools in the city, Salisay ES fit the criteria as the school has remarkable preparedness in the implementation of health protocols, he said.
“The school has a proper entrance and exit markings. It is also complete with alcohol stations scattered throughout the area. The relationship among DepEd, parents, and the LGU is a big factor in order for the face-to-face classes be possible here,” Fernandez said.
He said the parents received the plan well when they were consulted and briefed on the DepEd’s plans and were assured of the children’s safety.
He, however, clarified that not everyone will join the dry run.
Fernandez said the number will be limited so they can fully implement health protocols.
“Students will not go to school every day during the dry run,” he added.
Salisay only recorded a total of two Covid-19 cases, all of which have already recovered, as of this posting. (By Ahikam Pasion)
