Manila launches 2nd wave of Restaurant Week

FOLLOWING THE  success of its launch in September, the Manila City government on Thursday launched the second edition of its Restaurant Week aimed at helping businesses in the city that were affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso led the launching of the event held aboard M/V Eagle Cruiser at the Manila Bay.

In his speech, Domagoso said that the second installation of Manila Restaurant Week is a commitment of the city government to help businesses recover from losses and revive the local economy amid the health crisis.

During the event, participating restaurants would offer their specialty dishes to the public at a discounted price.

Ramdam po namin na marami sa ating mga negosyante ang talagang naapektuhan ng pandemya, kung kaya naman po ito ang aming simpleng kaparaanan upang matulungan kayong makabangon (we feel that many of our businesses were badly affected by the pandemic, and it is our simple way of helping them rise up again),” said Domagoso.

The second wave of the Manila Restaurant Week will officially start on Saturday and will last until December 20, to be participated in by about 80 restaurants located in the city.

Domagoso said the city government is doing its best to participate in the goal of the national government through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) to revive the economy of the country that was put to a halt during the imposition of the community quarantine.

He also said he wants to engage those businesses in the city that are still existing and have survived the pandemic.

“We know for a fact that a lot of businesses has already been affected with this pandemic but be that as it may we must go on kahit na mabigat na sa katawan, psychologically, emotionally, financially, medyo challenging na siya (even if it has burdened us psychologically, emotionally, financially it has become challenging for us) but we should and the city government should start the ball rolling,” he said.

Domagoso, meanwhile, reminded Manilenyos to remain vigilant and observe health protocols as the threat of Covid-19 is still around.(By Marita Moaje)
