THE PROVINCIAL Board (PB) approved on third and final reading Cebu’s historic P15-billion budget for 2021.
PB Member Glenn Anthony Soco, who authored
the budget ordinance, thanked the members of the Committee on Budget and
Appropriations, which he chairs, and the Provincial Board for the support. He
considers the 2021 budget as a “right investment in the right direction” and is
a vital component to the economic recovery of the Province. Next year’s budget
is 25 percent higher than this year’s.
“Kay once these programs will be
implemented, it can boost investments in the countryside, it can make the
travel of goods and services faster and likewise it can enhance the delivery of
the basic services of the government resulting in more economic activity in the
entire Province,” he said.
Soco stressed that the annual budget
for 2021 was carefully considered and deliberated by the members of the Budget
Committee and the Local Finance Committee. The development fund, he said,
takes up the bulk of the 2021 budget, with 55 percent or roughly P8.2
billion.
This consists of infrastructure
projects such as road concreting, bridges, waterworks system, and port
development, and other undertakings that would allow faster delivery of goods
and services.
As chairman of the Committee on Public
Health, Board Member Kerrie Shimura was also elated on the approval of the
budget because Governor Gwendolyn Garcia allocated a large funding for Cebu’s
four provincial and 16 district hospitals.
Delighted with the approval, Vice
Governor Hilario Davide III said many programs and projects are in store for
Cebu and the Cebuanos in the P15 billion annual budget. He lauded Garcia
for personally defending it and answering the questions and clarifications from
the Board Members during the budget’s second reading in Daanbantayan town.
“We hope that with this budget,
makab-ot nato ang plano, ang projects ni Governor Garcia,” Davide said. (Mylen
