THE TAGUIG City government will tighten its watch on minors who are going out of their homes.
Mayor Lino Cayetano issued the statement following the death of three children who drowned in a manhole in Barangay Western Bicutan.
“This is a tragedy and we are heartbroken. This should not have happened. We will also engage the community to make sure minors are supervised when leaving the household,” Cayetano said in a press statement Thursday.
The incident happened at around 12:40 p.m. in a water hole in a private property owned by Arca South.
The victims were all residents of a Philippine National Railways (PNR) site in Barangay Western Bicutan.
They were rushed to the hospital but they were pronounced dead on arrival.
“The City has been in close coordination with Arca South management, Philippine National Police, and Barangay officials and has ordered an immediate investigation on the matter. We have reached out to the families of these innocent young children. I have personally met with their mothers, and have assured them the City will continue to try to be a source of comfort for them during this difficult time,” he added.
Cayetano has ordered the area to be cordoned off to the public.
“We ask our citizens to join us in prayers as we grieve the loss of these innocent young lives. Let us pray for their loved ones and hope they find the strength to surmount this great test of faith,” he said. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
