THE LOCAL School Board (LSB) said it is supporting the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Sulong EduKalidad program, particularly the so-called “1-1-3-20-5 limited face-to-face learning model” proposed for the upcoming school year.
Sulong EduKalidad focuses on four aggressive reforms in basic education - K to 12 curriculum review and update, improving learning environment, teachers up skilling and reskilling, and engagement of stakeholders for support and collaboration.
The LSB unanimously supported the scheme that promotes innovation in the delivery of instructions, pivoting from a one-size-fits-all to a custom-fit-for-purpose structure.
DepEd has employed the Blended-Modular Distance Learning (BMDL) framework using capsulized self-learning empowerment toolkits (CapSLET) with supplementary online and offline; and television and radio-based instructions.
Under the 1-1-3-20-5 limited face-to-face learning model, Schools Division Superintendent Roy Tuballa explained that learners will be profiled according to their learning aptitude, academic challenges, health conditions, availability of support at home, and whether or not their parents would consent to face-to-face learning.
He said schools shall likewise be categorized according to its geographical location, Covid quarantine status, availability of teachers and readiness of health protocols. Learners and schools will be matched and divided into smaller groups of 20 learners that will meet 3 hours per week to teach five core subjects - English, Math, Science, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan.
Tuballa said they are studying to split Zamboanga into two divisions, one for each of the city’s two legislative districts, to ensure the needs and concerns of the different school districts would be addressed.
According to Tuballa, the
proposal should originate from their office, endorsed by the Sangguniang
Panlungsod before it could be sponsored in the House of Representatives.
He likewise expressed his gratitude to Mayor Beng Climaco for her continuing assistance to the advancement of local education, citing the duplicators that were recently provided by the City Government.
“The duplicators will not only be used for Covid, but is also an investment because we are going to sustain our CapSLET which will later become part of our review materials for our learners so that they will gain mastery of the subject matter and a permanent alternative delivery mode for our learners who cannot attend school regularly,” he said.
