AN OFFICIAL of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) said no military regulations have been violated when some of its reservists helped carry the casket of Christine Dacera, the flight attendant who died after a New Year's Eve party in Makati City, during her burial in General Santos City on Sunday.
"There was no military regulation or policy violated. This does not in any way demean anybody and I assure you that we are one with our investigating agencies in finding out the real truth behind her death," said PMC commandant, Major Gen. Ariel Caculitan, in a statement Sunday, adding that the reservists were not prohibited from doing such task.
Caculitan said Dacera's mother, Sharon, made a request to help in crowd control during the burial amid the pandemic and that it was granted by the 12th Regional Community Defense Group commander.
He said not all of the reservists are from the PMC. Though reservists are allowed to wear uniforms, Caculitan said no actual military honors were rendered during Dacera's burial.
"No ceremonies; no flag-draped casket, no volleys of fire that constitute interment honors," Caculitan said. (By Priam Nepomuceno)
