A JOB order employee of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) was identified as the source of illegal drugs of the graduating cadet who earlier tested positive for drug use, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.
PNP chief, Gen. Debold Sinas, identified the suspect as Diosdado Reyes, 25, a stay-in mess hall worker, as the source of illegal drugs of Cadet 1st Class John David Macagba, who found positive during the random drug test.
Citing reports from PNPA Acting Director, Brig. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, Sinas said Macagba admitted that he bought PHP3,000 worth of shabu from Reyes.
PNPA officials apprehended the suspect at the academy's mess hall quarters on Jan. 5.
He was turned over to Silang Municipal Police Station together with the recovered drug paraphernalia including used foils with visible traces of white crystalline substance, Sinas said.
Sinas said the PNP Crime laboratory has so far administered drug testing to 1,065 personnel of the PNP Academy comprising 817 cadets, 44 Police Commissioned Officers, 44 Police Non-Commissioned Officers, 12 Non-Uniformed personnel and 148 job-order employees and service providers, composed of utility and mess hall workers, security guards, janitors, and barbers.
Sinas said a contractual employee identified as Zepther Samonte tested positive for illegal drug use.
Both civilian employees are now the subject of a deeper investigation by PNP authorities, even as Sinas ordered criminal and administrative cases filed against all personnel involved.
Earlier, Sinas ordered a drug test for the entire graduating class of the PNPA after a graduating cadet was mauled by three fellow cadets last New Year’s Eve.
Citing a report from Brig. Gen. Steve Ludan, PNPA director, Sinas said only Macagba failed the test after his urine specimen showed traces of shabu.
The victim of the mauling incident identified as Cadet 1st Class Joab Mar Nacnas remains in the hospital and has yet to undergo drug testing. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
