AFTERSHOCKS ARE expected from the magnitude 5 earthquake that jolted Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake struck 58 kilometers (km) southwest of the municipality of San Jose around 7:24 a.m. It had a depth of 17 km.
Intensity IV was felt in San Jose.
The following instrumental intensities were also recorded:
Intensity III -- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
Intensity II -- Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; Sebaste, Antique
Intensity I -- Jamindan, Capiz
Instrumental intensity is measured using intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs is not expecting damages from the earthquake, as damage starts at Intensity VI based on Phivolcs' scale. (By Ma. Cristina Arayata)
