DavSur's vaccination campaign plan in place

THE PROVINCIAL  government of Davao del Sur has already put in place its COVID-19 vaccination campaign plan starting off with the pre-implementation phase.

The latest endeavor on the pre-implementation phase is the issuance of Executive Order No. 5 or an Order creating the Provincial COVID-19 Vaccination Emergency Operation Center, which was signed by Governor Douglas Cagas on Monday (Feb. 8).

Dr. Jonna Masongsong, Davao del Sur provincial health officer, bared this during Monday’s One Davao on COVID-19 Virtual Presser of the Philippine Information Agency Region XI.

Masongsong said that the issuance of Executive Order No. 6, which enjoins all the city and municipal local government units to mobilize local emergency operations center for the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, will follow anytime soon.

Previously, the governor has issued two other executive orders which commenced the pre-implementation phase of the LGU’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign plan.

The EO No. 2, which was signed on January 25, 2021, mandated for the creation of the Provincial COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign Technical Working Group and Task Force.

This was followed by the issuance of EO No. 4 on February 1, 2021, which enjoined all the city, municipal local government units, partners and stakeholders, to fully support the conduct of the province-wide implementation of COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Masongsong said that the provincial task force is currently monitoring the readiness assessment of Digos City and the nine (9) municipalities, “so that we will be able to submit our reports every week if we are really prepared for the upcoming vaccination campaign.”

Aside from this, she added that they are doing follow ups on the micro plans and the master lists of eligible population of the city and municipal LGUs in the province.

They have also asked for the master lists of the response cluster of the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

As to the priority groups to receive the COVID-19 jabs, Masongsong stated, “We have identified our first priority group which are the frontliners. So the frontliners here being identified are health care workers coming from the government hospitals as well as private hospitals.”

The implementation phase is expected to start by March 2021, once the vaccines will arrive, she said.

The provincial health officer has set aside the consideration of Pfizer vaccines for the province, saying that their facility is not capable of handling the said vaccine brand.

“We will be waiting for other vaccines to arrive for us to be able to receive these vaccines as our logistics because what we have right now for the province are only vaccine refs and vaccine couriers which will be able to handle vaccines between positive two to positive eight degrees,” Masongsong explained.(By Carina Cayon)
