A FORMER police officer who went rogue and now listed as one of the country’s most wanted persons was arrested in Negros Occidental, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas said on Monday.
Sinas identified the suspect as Anecio Lapara Jr., aka "Dondon"/"Junior Pulis", who was arrested by police operatives around 8:30 p.m. Sunday along Lapaz Street, Barangay 1 Poblacion in La Carlota City.
“The PNP remains determined to put behind bars all police scalawags as part of our relentless internal cleansing program,” Sinas said in a statement on Monday.
Lapara is accused in three separate criminal cases for robbery and illegal possession of firearms. He escaped from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility in Ormoc City while awaiting trial for his criminal cases.
He is listed as among the most wanted persons with reward under the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum circular No. 2002-39.
The report also revealed that the suspect was a member of the Philippine Constabulary Class 88 and was absorbed in the PNP in 1991 but was separated from the service in 1999, and led a criminal gang operating in Regions 7 (Central Visayas) and 8 (Eastern Visayas).(By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
