First Sunday of Lent. ‘Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant.’
Responsorial Psalm. Ps 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9. ‘God shows us that love and truth are the pathways we must take in life.’
Gospel. Mk 1:12-15. ‘God’s Spirit guided Jesus in the Dessert with Angels ministering to Him. He was Tempted but prevailed.’
“THIS IS the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” As we enter the Lenten season, the homilists remind us of a year when we had lockdowns and the world change drastically. We need to give time for God to reveal himself to us, just as he spent 40 days in the Dessert to listen to God. Though not literally, but setting aside time for prayer is very important especially in Lent.
This week we will turnover R.T. LIM Boulevard Project by the DBM. It is such a beautiful place for rest, for reflection. However we need discipline to keep it clean. Today we opened the Exhibit of Zamboanga City’s Heritage Treasures. I learned from Architect Torres that the Plaza Pershing Bandstand had very good acoustics.
The entrance gate of the BIR Building used to house Soldier’s Barracks and the current Police Station 11 used to be a municipal building. I wondered about a flagpole on top of the City Hall Tower. There used to be the American Flag on top with the Philippine Flag. These are treasures of who we are as a City.
On February 26, we unveil the Centennial Marker of the First “Moro” Scouts, the Birth of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines known as the Lorillard Spencer Troops. Indeed, we look back in the past, and the need to fulfil God’s mission as Mayor. Para con migo na Zamboanga Siege hasta na Pandemic, my gratitude to God sustains me in these challenges as Mayor. These events humbled me to rely on God with La Virgen Pilar, our true Mayor and Mother.
I am also inspired more with the help of our co-workers in Government to fulfil our task to give Zamboanga and our people the best that we can offer. How I wish the children can one day play in the park with their parents and grandparents. We all had this in mind for the families as we fulfil God’s mission. I love ZC. (MBC)
