CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - The Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APOO) here recently inaugurated the Spring Development Project (SDP) that will boost agricultural productivity here.

Aside from aiding farmers, the P1.4-million water system in the village of Tignapoloan will also benefit about 600 households who do not have access to potable water.

Mae Anne Timoteo, chief of the APOO Agricultural Engineering Division, said the reservoir could produce about 210 barrels of water per day (200 liters per barrel) and could aid farmers in planting banana, vegetables and other crops.

“Sauna pa gyud ning panahon, dugay na silang gaaligutgot sa ilang katubigan dinhi. Actually, layo pa kaayo ang ilang baklayon para makakuha sila sa tubig,” said Councilor Jay Pascual, who is the Committee Chairman for Agriculture.

He said establishing an environment-friendly water system is a great help to the community members and farmers as it can benefit household who will need water for their drinking, cooking, washing clothes, and bathing.

As for sustainability of the facility, Timoteo said they have already conducted a study on the level of water even during dry season. “Kadtong recent nga El NiƱo amo nang gibantayan ang kadaghan sa tubig apil na sab kung ting-ulan para makita kung makalahutay ang tinubdan,” she said.  (Recthie Paculba)
