Cebu Guv to seek re-election!

CEBU GOVERNOR Gwendolyn Garcia said she will seek re-election in next year’s local and national polls, even if some groups wanted her to run for senator.

“I have no intentions whatsoever of seeking national office. Read my lips: I’m running for governor again because I feel that I am more needed here in the Province of Cebu at this time and in the next years that will follow as we try to recover from this pandemic,” she said.

Reacting to calls for her to run for a senate seat, Garcia said: “I do not know whether I should thank them or whether I should ask, di na ba diay sila ganahan mag-gobernador ko's Cebu?”

But Deputy Speaker Pablo John Garcia, the governor's brother, found the group’s motive suspicious. “For a governor who loves Cebu so much, it would be inconsistent of her nga during this difficult time in our province, she would abandon Cebu for a higher office,” he said.

“It is inconsistent in her nature because she has demonstrated time and time again, even before when she was being urged to run for senator, nga she said 'there is only Cebu for me.’ Labi na karon, nga naa ta's taliwa'a niining krisis," he said.

The lawmaker shared the fable of the fox and the crow, wherein the fox asked a crow to sing so the food in its beak would fall to the ground for the fox to devour. “The flattery is too obvious. The motive appears to be flunky and exposes a hidden agenda,” he said.

“Mao na ilang gustong buhaton, ila kunuhay i-flatter si Governor Gwen kay ilang gusto nga mahug ang Office of the Governor ngadtu kay ilang tukbon. So I can only suspect nga gikan na's kontra Partido. I am deeply suspicious of groups like this nga mokalit lang og butho ba nya hapit nang election,” he added.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino said that selfish as it may seem, but he would rather keep the governor in Cebu province. “For me, definitely si Gov. Gwen Garcia is very capable of being a senator, but this time I want to be selfish because I want Governor Gwen to remain here in Cebu because these are trying times. We need a strong leader and a capable one," Dino told reporters. (Eleanor Valeros)
