GenSan to expand vax rollout to essential workers, indigents

THE CITY  government is targeting to cover an initial 5,393 eligible individuals in the upcoming rollout of the vaccination for essential workers and indigents in the area against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Dr. April Mae Maquilang, immunization coordinator of the City Health Office (CHO), said Monday they have enlisted as priority population some 2,061 residents under A4 and 3,332 under A5 categories from the city’s 26 barangays.

The A4 category covers front line workers in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel, while A5 refers to the indigent population.

She said they are currently fast-tracking the inoculation of the remaining front-line health care workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), and persons with comorbidities (A3) so they can expand to the other priority sectors.

“We want to cover more eligible individuals in the other sectors, especially among indigent residents, to increase the number of those protected from the disease,” she told reporters.

As of Sunday, a CHO report said a total of 9,627 individuals in the city have received their first dose of AstraZeneca and Sinovac’s CoronaVac vaccines while 3,013 have completed their second dose.

Some 6,563 persons were inoculated with the CoronaVac and 3,064 with AstraZeneca vaccines delivered by the Department of Health.

This comprised 7,271 under A1, 2,325 under A2, and 30 under A3. Only one out of the 48 target residents who are joining the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia was vaccinated.

CHO had identified a total of 8,606 eligible individuals under the A1, 28,933 under A2, and 6,564 under A3.

The report showed that the 9,627 vaccinated individuals are equivalent to 19.43 percent of the 49,544 total eligible population under the A1 to A5 categories. (By Richelyn Gubalani)
