A magnitude 5.3 quake jolted Davao Occidental early Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The tectonic quake struck 87 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental at 1:25 a.m. It had a depth of 72 km.
The following instrumental intensities were recorded:
Intensity II -- General Santos City
Intensity I -- Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Koronadal City, South Cotabato; Kiamba, Sarangani
Instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said aftershocks are possible, while damages are not expected from this earthquake. Based on Phivolcs' scale, damage starts at Intensity VI. (By Ma. Cristina Arayata)
