Police ops net P252-M worth of illegal drugs in 4 days

THE GOVERNMENTS  anti-illegal drugs campaign has been continuous amid the coronavirus pandemic, netting PHP252 million worth of contrabands in the last four days.

In a televised briefing on Monday night, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said the illegal items included shabu and marijuana seized by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 1,040 operations from April 27 to 30.

“The confiscated illegal drugs were shabu, 35.3 kilos, and marijuana, 103.17 kilos. A total of PHP252,909,235.20 in four-day police operations,” he said.

There were 1,378 suspects arrested, 12 killed, and nine who surrendered.

No longer part of the statistics shared by Año was the operation in Tarlac on Sunday, where PHP4.6-million worth of marijuana leaves were seized from three drug peddlers.

A report from Police Regional Office 3 said the three male suspects were aged 24, 33, and 40, and residents of Mountain Province.

The suspects, riding in a van, were caught with 24 bricks of suspected dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops and 26 rolled suspected dried marijuana leaves with fruiting tops placed in two plastic containers; and two bottles of suspected cannabis oil with an estimated value of about PHP30,000 each. (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
