Stringent measures up as Covid-19 cases rise in Butuan

THE INCREASE  in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases here prompted Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada to place the city under modified general community quarantine and impose stricter measures to curb the spike.

The new order starts Friday until Monday, May 31 unless lifted or further extended.

On May 25, the Department of Health in Caraga (DOH-13) reported an increase in Covid-19 cases in the city, with 4,113 total confirmed cases, 3,494 of which have recovered, 105 have died, and 514 are still active.

Butuan City is classified as a high-risk area for Covid-19 in the Caraga region.

Mass gatherings and non-adherence to the required health protocols are among the leading causes of the increase of Covid-19 cases in the city, Lagnada said.

Lagnada also noted the report from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) stating that most of the confirmed cases in previous weeks in the city were close contacts and the clustering of cases from families and workplaces that indicate widespread local transmission.

Under the order, all minors, seniors, pregnant women, and persons with health issues are mandated to stay at home and observe home quarantine.

The movement of all persons must be limited only to accessing essential goods and services and work in offices and industries allowed to operate.

The color-coded passes will also be implemented when going outside of residence during the period.

Curfew hours will be imposed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and the 24-hour total liquor ban will also be in place. During the period, mass gatherings are discouraged.

The city government also reiterated its call to all residents to follow the required health protocols to prevent the further spread of the virus. ( Alexander Lopez)
