Weather experts blamed the flooding to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone where a band of clouds consisting of showers, with occasional thunderstorms encircles the globe near the equator.
The local government said the flash floods inundated some 671 hectares of farmlands and fishponds in the eastern coast, leaving over P44 million in damages and some 1,396 farmers affected by the freak weather system.
The worst affected by the flooding were Barangays Manicahan, Curuan, Vitali and Tumaga, according to the City Agriculturist Office.
Mayor Beng Climaco ordered the social
workers to provide relief goods to families displaced by the flash floods as
the City Agriculturist Office prepares its recommendations for assistance to affected
farmers. (Zamboanga Post)
