ZAMBOANGA CITY is set to open soon its first Covid-19 molecular testing center which will drastically help the local government in its efforts to boost response in combatting the spread of the deadly respiratory disease.

Mayor Beng Climaco, head of the local task force on Covid-19, said the facility in Barangay San Roque will hasten the testing, tracing and treatment strategy of the City Health Office in a bid to prevent and control the transmission of the disease.

Once operational, the facility, owned by the local government, can run 300 Covid-19 tests per day.

Molecular and antigen tests are types of diagnostic tests than can detect active Covid-19 infection. Samples for diagnostic tests are typically collected with a nasal or throat swab, or saliva collected by spitting into a tube.

The test takes usually less than an hour and is typically highly accurate and usually does not need to be repeated. Some may indicate the need to re-test in certain circumstances. (Zamboanga Post)
