ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four people were shot dead late Thursday in an attack in the southern Philippine port city of Zamboanga, reports said.
It said the victims - a man, two
sisters and a girl were travelling on a motorcycle - when one or more gunmen
ambushed them in the village of Tugbungan at shortly before 7 p.m.
The driver had been identified as
Alih Ibno and the women were sisters - Fatima and Rana Raddaie - one of them
was the man’s wife. The girl, Alliyana Ibno, was just four years old.
Ibno’s group was heading home
when the attackers opened fire with automatic weapons.
Police investigators recovered at
least a dozen bullet shells from the area and quickly cordoned off the crime
scene to preserve whatever pieces of evidence they could gather to start the
investigation into the murders.
No individual or group claimed
responsibility for the killings which occurred at a dark and secluded area in
the village.
Major Shellamie Chang, a regional
police spokeswoman, said four motorcycle gunmen were involved in the attack. “The
suspects fled to an unknown direction on two motorcycles,” she said, adding,
police were investigating the murders.
Mayor Beng Climaco condemned the killings.
Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga where hired killers operate. The killings only lessened here due to the Covid-19 pandemic and curfew hours which limited the free movement of people. (Zamboanga Post)
