Security forces were trying to arrest the 43-year old Faharudin Satar alias Abu Zacaria, a suspected terrorist leader, when his followers opened fire on government troops, sparking a gun battle in Paigoay village.
The gunmen were eventually captured, but the others managed to escape during the fighting. There were no reports of casualties from both sides.
Policemen and soldiers recovered one Carbine rifle, two M16 rifles with three magazines loaded with ammunition, two .45-caliber pistols with loaded magazines, two bases for radio communication sets, six portable radios, a record book containing the group’s finances and names of various people and sketches of suspected terror plans and other subversive materials.
Brigadier General Eden Ugale, the regional police director, identified those captured as Camaroden Tindug, Sabdullah Sarip, Oter Macaungun, Asnare Alisood, Alisood Dima, Sowaib Abdullah, Saaduden Adapun, Zaenal Abdulatip and Salih Pitiilan.
National Police Chief General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar ordered security forces to track down and arrest those who escaped. “We will file appropriate criminal charges against these armed suspects.
ating Intensified Cleanliness Policy.
sa bansa,” he added. (Mindanao Examiner)
