Education, town officials praise Sulu vice governor for school building project

SULU – Education and municipal government officials thanked Vice Governor Toto Tan for his advocacy and strong support to literacy and education after the influential leader turned over Saturday a brand new school building in Patikul town.

 

Faculty members also praised Tan, a known philanthropist and a well-respected politician, for the building project which will benefit dozens of students once face-to-face classes resume. 

The gated building has four classrooms, two comfort rooms, a waiting shed, a covered stage and path walk, an office for the school principal and is well secured by a tall concrete wall. 

Tan handed over the symbolic key of the school building to Education Superintendent Kiram Irilis and District Supervisor Lina Asjali during a simple ceremony whose attendees followed health protocols due to the current Covid-19 situation which prohibits mass gatherings. 

Among those who witnessed the handover of the school building were the town’s Vice Mayor Pulaus Tarsum, Councilor Abdulgafar Mangkabong and Tandu village chieftain Muptha Tarsum. 

The benevolent project will benefit students and teachers of the Tandu Dagmay Elementary School.

In his speech, Tan, who is an advocate of child and youth welfare program, said: “This project should make it possible for young learners and teachers alike to have an environment conducive for learning, which in the long run, will contribute significantly to achieving the goals of good education, especially for the Tausug.” 

Tan is also a sports enthusiast and largely contributed to various sports activities in the province. (Mindanao Examiner, Jaques Tutong)
