Other reports said Aquino was found dead in his room by his staffs and rushed to hospital.
He served as the country’s 15th president from 2010 to 2016, and was succeeded by former Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Duterte was Aquino’s former ally and even campaigned for him
and the Liberal Party in Davao City. But Aquino eventually supported the
presidential candidacy of Mar Roxas in 2016 and lost to Duterte.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the Duterte administration
condoles with Aquino’s family. “We commiserate and condole with the family and
loved ones of former president Benigno Simeon Aquino III as we extend our
condolences on his untimely demise. We are grateful to the former president for
his contribution and services to the country. We ask our people to offer a
prayer for the eternal repose of our former chief executive. Rest in peace, Mr.
President,” he said. (Mindanao Examiner)
