DOCTOR MARIA Ivy Rozeth Saavedra-Iturralde, head of the Zamboanga City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, has won 1st place in the recent photo contest for the 10th Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Bi-regional TEPHINET Scientific Conference.

Mayor Beng Climaco congratulated Iturralde, whose unit is under the City Health Office, for winning in the photo contest. “Enhorabuena Dr. Ivy for winning the First Place in the photo contest for the 10th Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Bi-regional TEPHINET Scientific Conference. Congratulations Dr Ivy, we are very proud of you,” she said.
Climaco said Iturralde was also one of the chosen presenters (online) during the conference held from May 31 to June 4 in Taiwan for her study entitled “Using Epidemiological Data on Vaccine - derived Poliovirus Type I (VDPVI) Polio Event in a Southern Mindanao Island to Guide Outbreak Response - Philippines, November 2019.”
Founded in 1997, TEPHINET is the global network of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs). TEPHINET spans more than 75 programs actively training field epidemiologists in more than 100 countries.
FETPs play a
critical role in advancing global health security by building the public health
workforce needed for countries to detect and respond to acute public health
threats, including outbreaks, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises.
TEPHINET member FETPs include programs with laboratory and veterinary components.
To date, TEPHINET member programs have trained more than 19,000 public health professionals across the world to be the “boots on the ground” in the fight for better health. (Zamboanga Post)
