Zambo police officer dies from Covid-19

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A local police officer succumbed to Covid-19 after battling the deadly respiratory disease for 29 days.

The 52-year old captain, whose identity was not made public by the police, was tested positive for Covid-19 on May 1 and was immediately brought to hospital after showing symptoms of the disease.

He was eventually transferred May 18 to the intensive care unit and intubated, but died on May 30. The captain was the 66th fatality among the ranks of the national police organization.

The national police said it has more than 1,800 cops who are Covid-19 positive.

National Police Chief General Guillermo Eleazar said he was saddened by the demise of the officer and extended his condolences to the family in Zamboanga.
